Privacy Policy

1. Controller

The controller responsible for the processing of personal data on this website is:

Otto Jakob
Weinbrennerstraße 40
76135 Karlsruhe
Germany
Phone: +49 (0) 721 855 911
E-mail: contact@ottojakob.com

No data protection officer has been appointed, as there is no legal obligation to do so.

2. Overview

This website is purely an information and portfolio site. It has no online shop, no contact form, no newsletter, no analytics or tracking tools, no advertising networks and no social media plugins. Fonts, images and videos are delivered exclusively from our own servers or servers operated on our behalf; no content is loaded from third-party platforms (such as Google Fonts, YouTube, Vimeo or Instagram). Personal data therefore arises only to the technically unavoidable extent involved in retrieving a website, and when you contact us by e-mail or phone.

3. Hosting and content delivery

Web server

The website runs on a server of Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the Frankfurt am Main region (eu-central-1). The provider is Amazon Web Services EMEA SARL, 38 Avenue John F. Kennedy, L-1855 Luxembourg. Whenever a page is requested, the web server automatically processes the data your browser transmits:

  • the IP address of the requesting device,
  • date and time of the request,
  • the page or file requested and the amount of data transferred,
  • the referrer URL (the page visited before, if your browser transmits it),
  • browser type and version and operating system (user agent).

This data is stored in server log files and used solely to deliver the website, to ensure its stability and security (for example to detect attacks) and to fix errors. It is neither combined with other data nor evaluated for marketing purposes. The log files are deleted after 14 days at the latest, unless a specific security incident requires longer retention.

The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR; our legitimate interest lies in the secure and trouble-free operation of the website.

Content delivery network

Images, videos, fonts and stylesheets are stored with AWS (Amazon S3, Frankfurt region) and delivered through the content delivery network Amazon CloudFront. CloudFront keeps copies of these files on servers distributed worldwide and serves them from the location closest to your device; to do so, your IP address is transmitted to that server. AWS processes this data on our behalf under a data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR (the AWS Data Processing Addendum). Where data is processed outside the EU in this context, Amazon Web Services, Inc. is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (Art. 45 GDPR); the EU standard contractual clauses apply in addition (Art. 46 (2) (c) GDPR). The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in fast and secure delivery of the content). Further information: aws.amazon.com/privacy.

4. Cookies

This website sets no cookies for analytics, marketing or tracking purposes and uses no third-party cookies. For that reason no cookie banner is shown.

Only in a password-protected, non-public preview area of the website are two strictly necessary cookies set: a session cookie that stores your login (deleted after two weeks at the latest) and a cookie protecting against cross-site request forgery (deleted when the browser is closed). They contain no personal data and are needed solely for that function. The legal basis is Section 25 (2) no. 2 of the German Telecommunications Digital Services Data Protection Act (TDDDG) in conjunction with Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR.

5. Contacting us

If you contact us by e-mail or phone, we process the data you provide (name, e-mail address or phone number, content of your message) in order to answer your enquiry. The "Enquire" links next to the individual pieces merely open your own e-mail program; the website itself stores nothing. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR where your enquiry concerns a commission or purchase, and otherwise Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in answering enquiries). We delete the data once your matter has been dealt with and no statutory retention obligations stand in the way; business correspondence that leads to a commission is retained for up to ten years under Sections 147 of the German Fiscal Code (AO) and 257 of the German Commercial Code (HGB). Data is not passed on to third parties, except to service providers required to carry out a commission (such as shipping companies), and only to the extent necessary.

Please note that unencrypted e-mails can be read by third parties in transit. For confidential matters, please use the post or the phone.

6. Link to Instagram

The website contains a plain link to our Instagram profile. No data is transmitted to Instagram when the page loads. Only when you click the link do you leave our website; the privacy policy of Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd. then applies (privacycenter.instagram.com/policy).

7. Encryption

The website is available exclusively over HTTPS (TLS); the transmission between your browser and our server is encrypted.

8. Your rights

With regard to the personal data concerning you, you have the following rights against us:

  • access (Art. 15 GDPR),
  • rectification (Art. 16 GDPR),
  • erasure (Art. 17 GDPR),
  • restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR),
  • data portability (Art. 20 GDPR),
  • withdrawal of consent with effect for the future (Art. 7 (3) GDPR).

Right to object (Art. 21 GDPR): Where we process data on the basis of Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR, you have the right to object to the processing at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation. We will then no longer process the data unless we can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds for the processing which override your interests, rights and freedoms, or the processing serves the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims.

To exercise your rights, an informal message to the contact details given in section 1 is sufficient.

Right to lodge a complaint: You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). The authority responsible for us is: Der Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz und die Informationsfreiheit Baden-Württemberg (State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of Baden-Württemberg), Lautenschlagerstraße 20, 70173 Stuttgart, Germany, www.baden-wuerttemberg.datenschutz.de.

9. No automated decision-making

No automated decision-making, including profiling (Art. 22 GDPR), takes place.

10. Changes

We will update this privacy policy whenever the website or the legal situation changes. The version published here applies.
